The combination of hot weather and less hydration can lead to more breakouts, wrinkling, and sun damage if you don’t stay on top of your skincare regimen.

Follow these simple steps to keep your skin healthy in the summertime.


CLEANSING

Cleansing is probably one of the most important steps of your skincare routine. Most experts recommend that you cleanse your face twice daily, once in the morning and once at night. Apply a dime-sized amount of cleanser onto your fingertips and gently massage into the skin using small circular motions, starting from your forehead down to your neck. Rinse off with warm water and pat dry.

To exfoliate your skin properly, take a shower before you start your skincare routine and use an exfoliating scrub made with natural ingredients like strawberries, sugar, or brown sugar. Once you’re done exfoliating, wash off any leftover residue with warm water.

If you don’t have time to do a full-body scrub, focus on areas prone to breakouts (like your T-zone) instead of neglecting them altogether. You can also try using a loofah to gently remove dirt from your skin.

Remember that less is more when it comes to exfoliation; too much scrubbing will only irritate your skin further! Use products that are gentle enough for everyday use.

Simply mix equal parts ACV and water together in a spray bottle (or pour straight from a bottle) and spritz onto your face after cleansing at night before bedtime. Leave it on overnight as a mask before rinsing off with warm water in the morning.

MOISTURIZING

Moisturizing is your best bet when it comes to summer skincare. It’s important to take care of your skin year-round, but using a moisturizer every day during summer can really help boost and maintain hydration levels in your skin.

If you have dry or sensitive skin, opt for something richer that will add moisture back into your complexion.

 

HOMEMADE MOISTURIZER

 You can also use homemade moisturizer.  The easiest way to do so is by blending one tablespoon of honey with two tablespoons of plain yogurt (preferably Greek) until smooth. Apply immediately after cleansing and before bedtime—or any time you feel like your skin needs an extra dose of moisture!

Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen that protects against both UVA and UVB rays.  

Apply about 15 minutes before going outside so it has time to absorb into your skin. 

If you’re looking for more natural alternatives, there are plenty of sunscreens made with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide that provide protection without chemical additives.

 

MAKE YOUR OWN SUNSCREEN AT HOME

You can also try making your own sunscreen by mixing 1 tablespoon of coconut oil with 1 teaspoon each of zinc oxide and cocoa butter. The mixture will feel slightly tingly on your face—this means it’s working! Leave on for 5–10 minutes before rinsing off with warm water.
